Racism in British Universities

One of the major issues which has affected foreign students is racism. Although slogans and empty promises are seen in British Universities’ websites and their policies are claiming to tackle racism, but the racism and harassment are not dealt practically in real world in these institutions.

It is so often seen or heard that lots of foreign students have gone through painful experiences during their studies in British Universities especially in those Universities which have fewer students from minority backgrounds. After making official complaints, these students have been referred to their supervisors, graduate tutors, and Dean of students in a sick circle and then they have been told since the issues have occurred more than six months ago, they cannot be taken further legally. These Universities are aware of the laws related to racial issues and they deliberately prolong the matter until the six months are passed which it is the time to make a complaint against racial issues.

British Universities have even published unlawful regulations in their contracts with the students to restrict possible legal actions against the Universities. This is one of the ways that it has been used to protect them from legal procedures in the UK. Painfully, these Universities do not even bother to investigate these racial issues practically, although they claim it in their words. Some of these students have been asked to leave their universities as an option after the racial issues have been raised. Unfortunately, some of these Universities have reacted in a hostile approach towards these students after the students have submitted their complaints.

As a result, these students encounter lots of problems during their studies. Since overseas students are also dependent on their universities to give them supporting letter to extent their visa in the UK, this power has also been abused against these students to tell them off. The racism hurts and only and only people from minority can understand how difficult it is to live, work or study in such an atmosphere. It is clearly obvious that we are too far from tackling the racism in the UK in realities, but not in lies!
