Even one year-olds under race attack in the UK

In just one area of the UK called Lothians last year police probed 31 reports of hate crime against under-11. Racism has not spared even children as young as one. Figures, in fact, suggest children at such a tender age too have been the victims of racist abuse.

Expressing concern over the figures, experts say "the possibility of psychological damage due to abuse or attacks at such a young age just cannot be ruled out". You can read the full article here.

British teacher sprays insult, and air freshener, on Asian origin children

In yet another case of racial discrimination in the UK, air freshener was sprayed on children of Asian origin, as a teacher insisted they smelled of curry. The teacher was also blamed for asking support staff to spray the children at the 260-pupil primary school in Swansea, south Wales.

Racism is still prevalent in the UK

Racism is still prevalent in the UK with many young people casually expressing discriminatory views, a new report published on 05/01/2012 has revealed. The report by the Trust for London and the Runneymede Trust shows that very little work has been done to prevent racist violence.

Britain is still blighted by racism

Doreen Lawrence, whose 18-year campaign for justice finally saw two racist men jailed for the murder of her son Stephen on Tuesday (10/01/2012), has warned that "Britain is still blighted by racism".

Lawrence said in an interview with the Guardian that "thousands of families" were being denied justice by the police, 18 years after they failed to catch the killers of her son, because of "the colour of my skin". Lawrence said that when she was most in need of help from the police after her son's murder, they failed her because of her race: "All I have kept on saying is that I don't want any special treatment, just to be treated as you would want to be treated. When police dealt with me the colour of my skin made a difference."

Allegations of racism against the police up by 32% in four years in the UK

A shocking report published in 10/01/2012 found that "complaints of racism against the police have risen by almost a third in four years". During that time, "officers and police staff have been allowed to continue their jobs despite being found racist while they were sending racist emails and making racist jokes". More than half of all the complaints were against London’s Metropolitan Police.

In Cambridge, five officers have faced misconduct hearings for racism, with two being sacked and three being given warnings. Two Community Support Officers on the force were given written warnings for making racist comments.

There have been many unpublished allegations of racism against the police that have not been included in the report. Racist incidents have caused British people and the visitors not to trust the police anymore and this is a warning ring for the governors who have still ears to listen to.  You can read the full article here.
